Why sources matter more here than anywhere.
A company's chatbot that gets an answer wrong loses a customer. An institution's assistant that gets an answer wrong has, in effect, given official misinformation. So the design question comes first: every answer should come from a document the institution published, name it and link it, and say “I don't know” when the documents don't cover the question.
That is how ai-aflat.ro has worked since 2024. It searches the legislation in force, picks what's relevant and answers with the source attached. A general chatbot has no guarantee it isn't quoting an old version of the law.

None, on purpose. The only numbers in circulation for public-sector AI are forecasts or supplier claims. What I can show you is a system that has been in public use since 2024.

Questions that come up.
Can an AI assistant give citizens wrong information?
Any system can. The design reduces it: answers only from the institution's own documents, the source always linked, and an explicit “I don't know” when the documents don't cover the question. Then the answers are tested on real questions before launch.
How does a public institution work with you?
Contracts go through Sapio AI, the studio I founded in 2021, and the procurement route is agreed case by case with your institution. The first conversation is free and commits you to nothing.
Can you help us write the technical specification for a tender?
Yes, and it's often the most useful place to start. A clear specification makes the offers comparable and keeps the project from being judged on a demo.
Do you work with NGOs and small newsrooms?
Yes. Several of ai-aflat.ro's partners are NGOs and independent newsrooms. The scope is usually smaller: one archive, one assistant, one workflow.
Does the data stay in Romania?
It can. Where the data is processed is decided at the start and written into the specification; systems can run in the cloud region you choose or entirely on your own infrastructure.
